Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the kings horses and all the kings men couldn’t put Humpty together again.
In no part of the song does it say he’s an egg. So why do all the nursery rhyme books show him as an egg???
I think the rhyme’s a metaphor for a broken heart. Humpty Dumpty represents the person in love, the wall represents how free and high he/she felt while in love, Humpty Dumpty falling is for how horrible the person felt when he/she fell out of love, and the king’s horses and men are for all the ways that were tried to mend that person’s heart.
“People come, people go – they’ll drift in and out of your life, almost like characters in a favorite book. When you finally close the cover, the characters have told their story and you start up again with another book, complete with new characters and adventures. Then you find yourself focusing on the new ones, not the ones from the past.”—Nicholas Sparks (The Rescue) (via discomannequin)
